Brake- and clutch cables on your traditional scooter usually come with pear shaped nipples. These require barrel shaped adapters to fit the levers. While there are cables with a barrel shaped nipple these tend to twist when threading them into their housings. This then causes the braiding of the cable to unravel, with friction in the housing going up dramatically. Hence the two piece construction is pretty much the gold standard, and rightly so.
