Once it reaches the required rpm’s, the centrifugal force moves the clutch plates apart to mesh with the clutch basket which transfers the power to the gear box. By changing the springs that come with the clutch you can control the power you get out of the clutch as well. Harder springs delay the reaction of the linings towards centrifugal power, delaying contact with the bell until you have reached a higher rpm rate.
